Statesman: Give it a rest

By workingpresstoo

The Statesman couldn’t report fairly on Larry Craig if they wanted to. Every other media outlet in Boise gave fair and balanced coverage to the Senate Ethics story except the Statesman. Even Jim Weatherby, a Democrat, said the Senate Ethics letter was a slap on the wrist. Statesman editors tried to turn it into a big story. Fortunately for Treasure Valley residents the only thing these stories do is drive circulation down.

Has the Statesman yet done anything on their declining stock. It is now down to about $9.50 a share and at the the same time one of their favorite targets, Micron, has stock heading back up.

Staffers inside the Statesman tell wp2 that Popkey and his editors have been sitting on substantial facts and interviews that reflect favorably on Senator Craig. Don’t worry. wp2 is getting access to these files and we will be reporting on them in the very near future.

And what about that piece of yellow journalism Popkey wrote on the Governor and his friend. Calling the first lady a “trophy wife.” No wonder Popkey has to to rely on secondary and third-hand sources for his stories.

What about the Kate Kelly story Statesman editors? Are you going to continue to give her a pass on her revolving door with DEQ, her law practice and her Senate seat? Can your newspaper get any more blatantly liberal and Democrat?

If you are an advertiser in the Statesman, you might want to ask them why you are paying higher line rates when their circulation is declining.

Senator Craig got an ‘admonition’ from the ethics committee. That means ‘gentle disapproval,’ according to Webster’s. Many media outlets changed the word admonition’ to ‘reprimand’ because that is a more common word. But in this case ‘reprimand’ has a very serious meaning coming from the ethics committee. The ethics committee gave Senator Craig the least discipline they could. A fair media outlet would have reported it from that angle.
People calling for Senator Craig’s resignation because of this are like people wanting to jail someone for jay walking.

  2. Janet Johnson Says:

Jim Weatherby got it right; the Statesman worked hard to make it wrong. Once again, the Statesman got caught NOT doing their research. If their reporter had done his/her homework, he/she would have found out that Admonition is the least action the Ethics Committee can take. Reprimand is more serious followed by Censure and Expulsion. These last three actions require action by a vote of the US Senate. The reporter, if he/she had done his/her homework, would have found out that many senators (of both parties) were angry at the Chairman of the Ethics Committee, Barbara Boxer (D-CA), the most liberal member of the senate. She released the letter of admonition to the press and posted it on the Ethics Committee web site almost 24 hours before she sent it to Senator Craig.
Shame on you Idaho Statesman. Shame on you Barbara.

I am in favor of Senator Craig and think that the Idaho Staesman needs to apologize to them. I for one have stopped buying there paper and have for about 6 years as I am very mad about their reporting which is mostly false and stupid. they are so left field on every thing.
